This past week we’ve had one busted eyebrow, one busted lip and a broken lid to a toilet tank. Not that I’m keeping count! Looking forward to what crazy things will be possible with 4 boys. Wondering if we can purchase a padded rubber house.
Not That I’m Keeping Count
August 29th, 2010 by DesiBrownWith Increased Joy Comes Sadness
August 16th, 2010 by DesiBrownAs our checklists begin to dwindle and our excitement to bring home our baby grows, my sadness increases. I can’t help but lay awake at night and think about our baby’s birth parents. While adoption is a beautiful thing I am sad that there is such a need in Africa. I wish moms and dads weren’t literally starving to death and unable to feed their children. I wish parents in Africa weren’t dying from HIV/AIDS and other diseases in such outrageous numbers. I wish I could look my child in the eyes someday and tell him that his Mother had made a brave choice and chose life eventhough she was unable to take care of him. I’m not sure what the circumstances might be that allow our paths to cross with our son but I’m most certain they will probably be grim. I’m praying desperately that whatever the reason that causes our child to become an orphan, that his parents come to know Jesus. That one day we will meet in heaven and our son’s biological parents can rejoice with us in the man that God created him to be. Together we can stand amazed by our Maker in a place where there are no such things as starvation and disease. A place where there is no more anguish, pain, and weeping.
Mullets for Mankind Update
August 4th, 2010 by lesbrown
Based on the photos, Mullets for Mankind was a huge success. Our buddy, Steve Vanderheide, an amazing videographer and all around fine young lad, put his personal appearance up for auction in order to benefit our adoption. What a guy. Honestly, I didn’t think there was any way this would amount to much in a monetary sense, but that it did sound like fun. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Steve raised over $2000 to benefit our adoption. Wow. We couldn’t believe it. Thanks, Steve. You’re a good man and I hope you marry some sweet mullet-loving girl after this is all over.
Yard Sale Update
July 20th, 2010 by lesbrown
Well…It was kind of crazy around BrownTown this weekend. Wished I had spent more time getting pictures and video, but mostly I was just walking around in a daze trying to make correct change. I couldn’t possibly tell you how many people came by and looked or bought something, but it had to be in the hundreds. My lawn looks like a cattle drive went through. Awesome.
We’re still overwhelmed by the outpouring of love we received in the way of household items, old clothes, books, cd’s, dvd’s, and anything else you can imagine that was given to us by our friends for this sale – completely overwhelmed. And then there was all the help. There must have been 20 people who helped us set up, watched our kids, brought us food and cold drinks, priced things for people, helped people load stuff in their cars, etc. It was crazy. So many of you helped us so much that we couldn’t possibly repay you. I get a warm, but queazy feeling in my gut just thinking about it. Overwhelming.
People keep asking us how much money we made. Well, we made enough to get the ball moving and push it way down the field. We can start the process of this adoption again – pay deposits, file new forms, get background checked, fingerprinted, etc. again and get started. How will the rest of the money come? I don’t know, and I’m okay with that. I’m confident that He is going to provide every step of the way. There may be days in the future when I have my doubts because I’m a weak human being, but I know God will provide.
Somewhere in Ethiopia, there’s a boy who may be just a few days old or not even born yet. His momma and daddy can’t take care of him. Who knows why? God does. He sees them and he sees that boy. He knows his name. He knows his plight. He knows the way that someday he will come here and join his new family. Some day. Not soon enough for us. We love him and we don’t even know who he is. Beautiful.
Thanks so much for all you’ve done to bring our boy home. Can’t wait for you to meet him because that will mean that I have met him as well.

Mullets for Mankind
July 15th, 2010 by lesbrownOur crazy friend, Steve Vanderheide has come up with his very own fundraiser for us, Mullets for Mankind. He’s going to allow his friends to cut his rather long hair into a rocking mullet. The more money he raises, the longer he’ll keep the mullet. That’s our boy. You can read about it on facebook here:

More Yard Sale Stuff
July 15th, 2010 by lesbrownJust wanted to remind you all that we’ll be having our Yard Sale this Friday and Saturday. We’re hoping that the money we raise will get us enough money to get all the initial deposits and payments for our adoption so we can get rolling with it and get a referral as soon as possible.
Thank you so much for all the donations both in terms of raffle tickets and items for the yard sale. The response has been incredible and we’re extremely thankful.
Now there’s just one more thing we need for this Yard Sale – Help! We’ve got so much stuff for the sale that we’re gonna need help tomorrow night to get it all put out and priced for the sale. Plus we’ve still got a lot to go and pick up. So, I’m going to be renting a big truck and making a few pickups in Lake Highlands tomorrow at lunch time, plus some other pick ups after work. If anyone wants to roll with me, that would be great.
In addition we need some help getting everything prepped in our yard. We’ve got people bringing over tables and stuff, but we need folks to set stuff out and price it. You don’t have to be an expert or anything. We just need a couple of hours help tomorrow night from a few folks.
If you can come, we’ll feed you pizza and cold drinks or something like that. And Teresa Graybill may be dropping off some cupcakes as well. I think you all know how incredible her baked goods are. So come on over.
For those of you who entered the raffle, we’ll have the drawing on Saturday at 12pm.
Thanks again for the help. We’ve been blown away by all that you’ve done to help us in this.
Thanks…
Les
PS Let me know if you can come over tomorrow so we’ll know how much food to get.
PSS You have to check out the fundraiser Steve Vanderheide has planned, Mullets for Mankind. You can check it out here:

Yard Sale this Weekend
July 13th, 2010 by lesbrownHey folks. Everything is looking good to hold the yard sale this weekend. The weather looks great and we’re getting ready to go. If you have something you’d like to contribute to the sale, we are definitely still accepting donations. However, we’re just about out of room at home. So, if you could deliver it either Thursday night or Friday morning, that would be awesome. We’re also looking for folding tables to put things on for the sale as well as a few brave souls who will help us lay things out and price them Thursday night. We’ll get pizza and drinks and make it as festive as possible.
You can also still contribute to the cause through the Paypal button below. Thanks to everyone who’s jumped on board to help us bring our next baby home.
Video From A Year Ago
July 7th, 2010 by lesbrownI took this about a year ago at a Home Depot. The kids’ first public performance. It’s crazy how much they’ve changed. It goes by way too fast.
Drop Offs & Warm Bodies: G-Sale This Weekend
July 5th, 2010 by DesiBrownThe big garage sale weekend is approaching fast. Many of you have been awesome and donated stuff for the sale. Others of you are continuing to work on your pile to donate. We’ll take your drop offs all week or bring it Thursday night and help us get ready for the big sale! Thanks to all of you who have already helped!!
If you are still wanting to jump on Team Brown Town and help us bring home our babies from Africa we could use your help! We need people to come help us Thursday get ready for this massive event. We need people to help price items, make signs and help pick up large items from people who have donated them to our sale. We’ll order up some pizza and make a fun night of it! If you like to mix it up with people we would love to have your help during the garage sale. If you’re free and love our kids you could help by coming over and watching them while we mix it up with the garage sale peeps. We’d love to use this event to not only help bring home our kids from Africa but to share the gospel with those who show up to buy stuff.
Right now the weather is looking rather iffy for a garage sale. Thursday morning we’ll make a call whether or not we’ll proceed with this weekend. If this weekend won’t work we’ll move it to the following weekend. We know God is perfect in His timing!!
We are so grateful to all of you who have come along side us during this journey. Words can not express how blown away we are at God’s provision and the love and support we’re received through our friends. Thank you Brown Town Fans, Thank you!!!
